the jade hotel
new york, ny
Atelier & Co. was hired to redesign the exterior of this Greenwich Village boutique hotel during the construction of the building. Inspired by the Georgian revival towers of lower Fifth Avenue from the 1920's, the new design employs brick and cast stone trim and ornaments, and traditional window designs to make an historically inspired contribution to the skyline of West 13th Street. A Greek revival 'storefront' - complete with channeled, rusticated brick piers, colored restoration glass windows, a custom decorative triglyph frieze inspired by Grinling Gibbons, crowning globe finials and pediment, and gas lanterns - are reminiscent of an historic Greenwich Village landmark. The facade leads, via a pair of grand custom designed doors, to an inviting hotel lobby and the American Georgian hotel tower beyond
